Waste logistics centre

Pfaffenau, Austria

From MV switchgear
to the power socket

Key data

The essential purpose of the waste logistics centre is ensuring that Vienna’s residual waste can be disposed of if the incineration capacity fails. This would be achieved by intermediate storage in the form of film-wrapped press bales in a bale warehouse. It will consist of the following main elements: a processing plant with corresponding pre-storage areas (single-storey and underground bunkers) and a bale warehouse.

The waste logistics centre has a maximum daily capacity or 1,120 tonnes and an annual capacity of 280,000 tonnes. The bale warehouse has a maximum storage capacity of 51,000 tonnes. The purpose of the waste material collection centre is to collect municipal refuse and hazardous waste. The maximum annual turnover is 15,000 tonnes of collected waste.

The plant is directly adjacent to the Pfaffenau waste incineration plant on Johann-Petrak-Gasse (see www.wku.at)
